TWIST (Together, Women in STEM Thrive) is an event hosted by Muskego High School’s FIRST robotics team, the WarriorBots, each October dedicated to empowering girls in STEM through competitive robotics. At its core, TWIST is a competition with a twist, as robots are driven completely by girls in exciting competition between teams from across the Midwest.
Founded in 1989, FIRST® is a global nonprofit organization that prepares young people for the future through life-changing youth robotics programs that build skills, confidence, and resilience. FRC is the high school level of the program where teams of students are challenged to build industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game in alliance with other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals and advancing respect and appreciation for STEM within their community.
But TWIST goes beyond robotics to provide an inclusive, safe environment for girls to gain confidence and grow their skills. TWIST centers around a full-size FRC competition, a FIRST LEGO League scrimmage, and a FIRST Tech Challenge demo to bring together women leaders from all FIRST competition levels. We also provide networking opportunities through our “Student Opportunities Fair” which showcases scholarships, colleges, and possible career paths for attendees to explore.
