What is the right balance between screen time and engaging in real life (IRL)? Although, being behind screens constantly enables us to get a lot done with technology, we fail to develop needed soft skills, critical thinking, and problem solving and will lose these skills over time if they are not exercised. Furthermore, managers must spend working side by side their employees. Although remote work is viable with screens, new entrants to the workforce develop by having their managers work alongside them in real life (IRL). Managers serve as mentors to their employees who work as apprentices and by working remotely, a leadership gap in the workplace is apparent. By showing up IRL, managers demonstrate how to adapt during day to day events in the workplace. How can we create the appropriate balance for life behind screens to develop our workforce professionally during the workday? How can we ensure we are create future leaders with adequate empathy and expertise in face to face interactions?
